LHCCEC toddler teachers follow a detailed, age-appropriate lesson plan. The lesson plan includes activities designed to strengthen fine and gross motor skills through songs, finger plays, music, rhythm, movement, and toy exploration. Songs and visuals help to increase vocabulary. Names are given to the people, animals, objects, and emotions that ARE the toddler’s environment.

Widening vocabulary, strengthening social skills, and learning to “go potty” are the building blocks of the LHCCEC two’s program. Learning to follow simple directions; to listen and respond to books; to take care of clothing and follow sanitary habits; to count; to recite and recognize the letters of the alphabet; to match objects one-to-one; to recognize and name shapes; to recognize and name basic colors; and to engage in “pretend” can all be fun as teachers engage toddlers with finger plays, songs, games, stories, rhymes, and sensory activities.

When do I need a jacket? What’s the difference between a large, medium, or small drink? How many is “twenty”? How do I make scissors work? What letters make my name? Can I make my own music? Why do I have to take turns? All these questions and more are answered on a weekly basis as teachers make children aware of the fun in exploration.

LHCCEC fours are on the brink! Curriculum for this age group is designed to intentionally prepare LHCCEC students for kindergarten. The LHCCEC “Skills Checklist” is based on the Richardson Independent School District’s pre-kindergarten checklist. Learning is laced with silly songs and games (and fours are really INTO silly) with a scoop or two of imagination added.

Young Scholars: Pre-Kindergarten
Designed especially for children who will be entering kindergarten, the LHCCEC pre-kindergarten class uses the High Reaching Learning “Passports” curriculum. This purchased curriculum concentrates on pre-writing and writing skills, number recognition, sorting, paring, matching, sequencing, graphing, health, and social skills. Students learn sight words and phonics in preparation for reading.
